Electrification of transport: the French government reiterates its support for the industrial sector at the Renault Trucks site in Bourg-en-Bresse

During a visit to Renault Trucks' Bourg-en-Bresse plant, Sébastien Martin, Minister for Industry, reaffirmed the French government's support for the development of electric road transport. The Minister highlighted the ability of French industry to manufacture electric trucks at scale, helping to speed up the decarbonisation of road transport while strengthening Europe's industrial sovereignty.

On Monday 18 May, Antoine Duclaux, President of Renault Trucks, welcomed Sébastien Martin, the French Minister for Industry, to the Bourg-en-Bresse plant. The Minister toured the production lines for long-haul, construction and heavy-duty trucks (Renault Trucks T, C and K), together with the line producing Renault Trucks' heavy electric models (Renault Trucks E-Tech T and C), which have been manufactured in series at the site since 2023.

From 1 June 2026, grants of up to €100,000 will be available in France for the purchase of electric trucks

During the visit, the Minister announced increased financial support for the purchase of electric trucks through the Energy Savings Certificates (CEE) scheme. From 1 June, grants of up to €100,000 will be available in France for the full range of electric heavy goods vehicles, up from the current maximum of €60,000.

Calls for further measures to accelerate the uptake of electric heavy goods vehicles

Renault Trucks, through its President, welcomed the announcement, which represents a strong signal of support for both the industrial sector and the road transport industry. Antoine Duclaux nevertheless emphasised that further action would be needed to speed up the adoption of electric trucks, including "reduced motorway tolls for electric trucks, priority access in public procurement and measures encouraging shippers to require their transport operators to use them".

Electric mobility driving the decarbonisation of transport and strengthening industrial sovereignty

This visit to one of the leading industrial sites in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region gave Sébastien Martin the opportunity to underline that electrifying freight transport is not just a question of reducing emissions, but also a strategic opportunity to strengthen Europe's industrial sovereignty.

130 million kilometres covered in real-world operations

Renault Trucks' medium-duty electric trucks, produced at its Blainville-sur-Orne plant since 2020 – Europe's pioneering electric mobility facility – and its heavy-duty electric trucks, manufactured in Bourg-en-Bresse since 2020, have together covered 130 million kilometres in real-world operating conditions, avoiding more than 115,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.
