Two premieres and a complete electric portfolio: Renault Trucks takes the stage at IAA Transportation 2026
At IAA Transportation 2026, Renault Trucks puts the spotlight on its Model Year 2027, featuring the new DE13 R engine, and the new Renault Trucks E-Tech Trafic, developed on a dedicated 100% electric platform. The manufacturer is also showcasing the Renault Trucks E-Tech T 780, offering up to 660 km of range on a single charge. This offer reflects Renault Trucks’ dual focus: accelerating the transition to electric transport while continuously improving the efficiency of its diesel vehicles.
Hannover, 14 September 2026 – With a new generation diesel powertrain and a comprehensive electric portfolio spanning vehicles from 2.8 to 50 tonnes, Renault Trucks is reinforcing its position as key partner for transport operations across every segment. The innovations showcased at IAA Transportation 2026 reflect the company's commitment to both accelerating the transition to zero-emission transport while delivering ever greater efficiency in conventional powertrains.
“Renault Trucks is here to accelerate the transition to electromobility. We keep pushing electric solutions, and in the meantime, we keep reducing CO₂ emissions on every kilometre our customers are driving, even those that cannot yet be electric”, says Antoine Duclaux, President of Renault Trucks, at IAA Transportation 2026.
The Renault Trucks DE13 R – Raising the efficiency bar with a new Diesel Powertrain
With 97 % of the European truck market still running on diesel, Renault Trucks is committed to the continuous improvement of its combustion engine efficiency. The new DE13 R engine, paired with a new generation of Optidriver gearboxes, delivers fuel savings up to 4 % compared to the previous generation – and is compatible with HVO and B100 renewable fuels.
Key technical highlights of the DE13 R:
- Available in versions up to 540 hp with 2,800 Nm of torque – the highest torque in the 540 hp class on the market – and 900 rpm
- Maximum cylinder pressure of 250 bar and a new high-pressure external fuel pump for improved injection precision
- Optidriver+ engine brake as standard, with gear changes up to 20% faster than the previous generation
- Optivision+ predictive cruise control and Predictive Engine Stop Start for maximum fuel efficiency
- Smart Steering with integrated Driver Assist for enhanced directional stability and lane keeping
The new powertrain is introduced across the Renault Trucks T, T High, C and K ranges for the 2027 model year. Exclusively at IAA Transportation 2026, Renault Trucks is also unveiling the T High Ultimate Edition – a numbered limited series of 30 units available in three distinctive colours: violet, gold and grey combining the 2027 model year technical upgrades with exclusive design by Renault Trucks' design department.
A new benchmark for electric long-haul transport: the Renault Trucks E-Tech T 780
The Renault Trucks E-Tech T 780 marks a significant step forward in the expansion of electric long-haul transport. Offering a range of up to 660 km on a single charge, the vehicle combines extended operational capability with full payload capacity, while maintaining compatibility with existing trailer fleets and axle load requirements.
This performance is enabled by the introduction of an electric axle and a new generation of high energy-density NCA batteries featuring an extended operating window of up to 95 % of total battery capacity. The vehicle also benefits from an optimized electric driveline, developed using insights gathered from more than 150 million kilometres driven by Renault Trucks customers in real-world electric operations.
Analysis of operating data from 70,000 connected Renault Trucks vehicles in Europe over the past two years confirms that 80 % of daily missions can be completed by the new Renault Trucks electric portfolio. This figure rises to 90 % when a 45-minute fast charge via CCS (350 kW) or MCS (525 kW for the T 585 / 700 kW for the T 780) is carried out during the driver’s mandatory rest break.
The Renault Trucks E-Tech T range now comprises three complementary versions:
- Renault Trucks E-Tech T 780 : up to 660 km range, payload up to 27.4 tons, 6x2 configuration
- Renault Trucks E-Tech T 585 : up to 500 km range, payload up to 28.8 tons
- Renault Trucks E-Tech T 540 : up to 450 km range, payload up to 25 tons, optimized for regional distribution
All three models carry a standard battery warranty for up to six years or 720,000 km, extendable to 10 years via the Serenity Pack.
Next chapter in LCV electrification: the new Renault Trucks E-Tech Trafic
The new Renault Trucks E-Tech Trafic is developed on a 100% electric platform: a modular skateboard architecture that fundamentally rethinks component positioning to optimize manoeuvrability and usable load volume.
Built on Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) architecture, the Renault Trucks E-Tech Trafic offers features that can be updated remotely throughout the vehicle's lifetime. Key specifications include:
- Range of up to 470 km* (WLTP combined)
- 800 V electrical architecture: charge from 15 % to 80 % in approximately 20 minutes, recovering up to 280 km* of range
- Turning circle of 10.3 meters (L1 version) – comparable to a city car
- Load volume of 5.1 m³** (L1) and 5.8 m³** (L2)
- Vehicle height under 1.90 m – access to urban underground car parks
The Renault Trucks E-Tech Trafic will go on sale in Europe in the first half of 2027.
“This new vehicle marks a new step in expanding our electric solutions supporting our strong ambitions to double our LCV volumes by 2030, to reach 40,000 units per year in Europe”, states Antoine Duclaux
